NYC H2O: Marine Science After-School
In partnership with CAMBA
March 18-June 21, 2019
NYC H2O's after-school program is an education, leadership, and college-readiness program focused on marine science and experiential learning. The program will operate in partnership with CAMBA, Brooklyn-based nonprofit offering social services to low-income New Yorkers. High school interns will explore STEAM careers ranging from marine biology to urban planning, participate in field trips to beaches, labs, and sailboats, and gain skills related to classroom management and environmental education. The program will culminate with two lessons led by the interns and delivered to elementary school students.
The program will launch in the spring of 2019 on a small scale with five high school interns. As the program's first cohort, these five students will have the opportunity to shape the program's focus, curriculum, and field trips. This unique science and leadership opportunity will provide these five teens with one-on-one mentorship, college and career readiness, access to NYC's waters, and the chance to help build the program for future students. Admitted students will also receive a stipend upon completion of the program.
The program will take place at one of CAMBA's Cornerstone Community Centers. The site will be chosen based on where admitted students reside and attend school. The program will run twice a week from 3-6pm, March 18th through June 21st, 2019.
Interested students should apply by clicking here. Applications will close on March 4th, 2019. Finalists will be contacted by March 5th to schedule an interview. Admitted students will be notified by March 8, 2019.
